Position Overview
The role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing new upstream oil and gas business opportunities. This role will support portfolio growth through acreage acquisition, farm‑ins/farm‑outs, M&A activities, and strategic partnerships while ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, risk appetite, and value creation objectives. This is a hands‑on deal and analysis leader responsible for maturing upstream opportunities that support PETROS’ role as Sarawak’s resource custodian and gas aggregator.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and screen upstream business opportunities including exploration blocks, producing assets, farm‑in/farm‑out opportunities, and mergers & acquisitions.
- Support development and execution of upstream growth strategy aligned with PETROS and Sarawak energy objectives.
- Monitor regional and global upstream market trends, licensing rounds, competitor activity, and regulatory developments.
- Lead or support technical, commercial, and economic evaluation of upstream opportunities.
- Coordinate subsurface, drilling, facilities, operational and commercial inputs to develop integrated business cases.
- Prepare economic models (NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis) and value assessments.
- Support and, where required, lead negotiations for PSCs, JOAs, farm‑ins/farm‑outs, and asset acquisitions or divestments.
- Work with legal and commercial teams on term sheets, data room reviews, and transaction closing.
- Build relationships with partners, operators, service providers, regulators, and government agencies.
- Act as a focal point between internal technical teams, management, and external stakeholders, as well as to represent the company in technical–commercial discussions and industry forums.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Finance, Commercial or related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with experience in business development, commercial, or financial analysis roles.
- Strong financial and economic modelling capability, with solid understanding of upstream value drivers and risks.
- Possess a strong negotiation and stakeholder‑management skill, as well as high attention to detail with strong commercial judgement.
