Location: Kuching, Kuching, MY

Company: PETROS

About PETROS:

At PETROS, we aim to achieve sustainable development for Sarawak and the nation through responsible resource management. We embarked on this journey with a purpose: Harnessing Resources for the Sustainable Progress of Sarawak and Beyond. Through innovation, collaboration and a forward-thinking approach, PETROS aims to pioneer solutions that pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable energy future.

Position Overview:

The role is to lead comprehensive geological and geophysical evaluations, studies and modeling to ensure accurate subsurface understanding in support of maturation of exploration, field development and WRFM opportunities and decisions. Work includes undertaking all geological works including geological studies, geological operations, geological mapping, prospect maturation, volumetric and geological risks assessment for exploration; static modelling work, volumetric assessment and uncertainty for development evaluation; working closely with asset surveillance team to maximise fields potential and identify production enhancement opportunities. It also requires the candidate to lead projects through the hydrocarbon maturation funnel and uphold regulatory and technical governance; and leading of due diligence process for upstream M&A projects. It contributes to the Upstream and PETROS results by identifying value-accretive opportunities, reducing subsurface risks, guiding investment decisions, and ensuring operations are safely executed and in compliance with relevant technical standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide geological and geophysical oversight and technical input to ensure operator compliance and optimise national resource management in order to uphold governance and asset performance standards by reviewing well proposals, seismic acquisition/reprocessing plans and monitoring ongoing activities.
  • Conduct regional basin prospectivity studies and identify, mature and evaluate leads/prospects to build a value‑accretive exploration portfolio in order to support investment decisions by performing volumetric assessments, risking and integrating multidisciplinary data as well as to support Area Development Study.
  • Monitor well operations, correlate well logs and conduct real‑time interpretations for exploration and development wells to ensure subsurface objectives are met and reduce geological uncertainty by providing continuous oversight and integrating drilling results into seismic and geological models.
  • Perform 2D/3D seismic-well ties, seismic interpretation, velocity modelling, time-depth conversion, structural mapping and seismic attribute studies to deliver accurate subsurface characterisation in order to support reliable prospect evaluation and field development decisions by applying rigorous geophysical workflows and quality-control practices.
  • Design seismic, gravity and magnetic data acquisition plans for exploration and appraisal areas to obtain high-quality subsurface datasets needed for resource identification by integrating geological objectives, survey design principles and operational constraints.
  • Carry out Data Room evaluations, due diligence and block screening for business development opportunities to recommend viable farm-ins and strategic acreage positions by assessing subsurface potential, technical risks and commercial attractiveness systematically.
  • Perform brownfield analysis, working closely with Reservoir Engineers to support WRFM and Surveillance, identify production enhancement opportunities and brownfield re-development opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Geophysics/Earth Sciences/Petroleum Geoscience.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience working in major oil and gas companies.
  • Knowledge and experience in local Borneo geological setting, particularly the Sarawak Basin will be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in geological software applications (PETREL, GeoX) and sound understanding of model building workflows and development geology (for Development Geoscientist) and play-based exploration (for Exploration geoscientist).
  • Knowledge in hydrocarbon maturation process and M&A due diligence process.

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic and inclusive work environment that fosters growth and innovation.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package, including healthcare, retirement plans, paid leave etc.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement within a global organization.
  • The chance to be part of transformative projects that impact Sarawak and beyond.
