Position Overview:
The Lead, Electrical is responsible for providing technical leadership, assurance and continuous advancement of the electrical discipline across management, engineering, contract development, contractor management, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The role ensures that electrical engineering practices, standards, legislation and technical requirements are established, maintained and continuously improved in alignment with PETROS’ vision, mission and business objectives. The position also provides electrical technical advisory support and drives the development of electrical engineering capabilities and talent to ensure sustained technical competency across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise and leadership in electrical engineering design, power system studies, and analysis across PETROS projects and assets.
- Provide technical expertise and support in the operation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring reliability, safety and compliance.
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve PETROS Electrical Engineering standards, specifications and practices, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards and statutory requirements.
- Provide technical support and input for business development activities, including feasibility studies, concept selection, engineering studies, technical tender packages and contract documentation.
- Provide technical assurance for electrical engineering deliverables, philosophies and control points throughout the project and asset lifecycle, including electrical troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
- Provide technical assurance and guidance on electrical safety, including compliance assessments, internal audits, risk assessments such as SAFOP, and electrical-related incident investigations.
- Provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing to the Electrical Engineering skill pool to strengthen technical competency and support continuous professional development.
- Drive continuous improvement and advancement of electrical engineering practices and capabilities in line with PETROS’ business objectives, operational requirements and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution; registered with BEM. Professional Engineer (Ir.) accreditation with BEM is an advantage.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a similar role, preferably within the oil & gas industry.
- Experience in electrical engineering studies, design, calculations, specifications, FEED, detailed engineering, operations, maintenance, testing and commissioning.
- Experience with power plants and upstream/downstream oil & gas facilities, including generators, transformers, HV/LV switchgear, UPS, earthing and lightning protection, lighting and hazardous areas.
- Proficient in ETAP or similar electrical system study software, electrical calculations, equipment specifications, and relevant international codes and standards.
- Good knowledge of electrical legislation, statutory requirements, safety compliance and hazardous area requirements.
- Experience in engineering/project management, tender and contract preparation, stakeholder management and process improvement.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching and mentoring skills, with experience in developing engineers and technical talent.
- PMP, HV switching certification up to 275kV, and Ex certification would be an advantage.
