Position Overview:

This role is responsible for driving financial analysis and delivering strategic insights across upstream business segments, including joint ventures and key projects. It supports informed decision-making by aligning financial planning and performance with the company’s objectives within the oil and gas sector.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial support for NOV upstream operations by monitoring JV cost performance, validating partner billings, and assessing the fair and equitable of shareable costs (e.g. review cost allocations, revenue sharing and cost recovery). Review the Quarterly Audited Accounts (QAA) as well as Annual Work Program and Budget (WP&B) prepared by operators. Ensure operators’ compliance with Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), Joint Operating Agreements (JOA), and other applicable agreements, while collaborating with stakeholders to support sound decision-making and uphold strong financial governance in a non-operating partner capacity.
  • Deliver value-added financial insights and contribute towards enhancing the overall economic value of PSC assets.
  • Execute Joint Venture (JV) audits in accordance to JOA with minimal supervision with the ability to lead JV audits preferable, including liaise effectively with operators and JV partners, prepare clear audit reports with findings and practical recommendations,
  • Support Head Upstream Finance in monitoring of Profit & Loss (P&L) and Free Cash Flow (FCF) for the assigned PSCs in-charge, proactively providing timely insights and recommendations and  to management to support informed decision-making and achievement of financial targets.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders—including technical teams, auditors, and JV partners—to ensure transparent financial communication and alignment on key initiatives.
  • Support finance process improvements by assisting in ERP system enhancements (e.g., SAP modules), strengthening internal controls, and promoting automation to streamline accounting workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and drive operational excellence.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with relevant accounting professional qualification (e.g. MIA, ACCA, CPA, CA).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting field and sound knowledge of Malaysia upstream-specific reporting (e.g. PSCs, R/C cost recovery terms) will be an added advantage.
  • Good command of financial reporting standards (e.g. IFRS) and regulatory compliance. 
  • Critical thinker & problem solver with a keen eye for financial details.
