Position Overview:


The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of PETROS Gas' natural gas transmission and distribution infrastructure. In addition, the position encompasses project management responsibilities for both Domestic Gas inorganic and organic growth opportunities. Reporting to the Sarawak Gas Distribution (SGD) Manager, the OE oversees a team of three direct reports. This role is integral in supporting strategic planning, project execution, and operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Designing, planning, and overseeing gas engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Conducting site surveys and assessments to ascertain project feasibility and requirements.
  • Developing project plans, specifications, and cost estimates in alignment with project needs and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborating with consultants, utility providers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project compliance and success.
  • Selecting appropriate materials, equipment, and technologies for gas distribution and infrastructure projects.
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Conducting risk assessments and implementing safety measures to mitigate hazards associated with gas engineering projects.
  • Supervising construction activities, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications.
  • Resolving technical issues and addressing project-related challenges in a proactive and efficient manner.
  • Monitoring project progress and performance, reporting on key metrics to management.
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance of documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Preparing short-term and long-term forecasts for natural gas supply to PETROS Gas, considering demand and supply factors.
  • Coordinating with gas suppliers and customers to meet constraints and requirements, ensuring a smooth gas supply chain and minimizing disruptions.
  • Coordinating with operations and maintenance teams to ensure business continuity during planned or unplanned work affecting the gas supply chain.
  • Developing and executing lifecycle management activities for natural gas transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Identifying and implementing work process improvement opportunities in operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Investigating gas variances and preparing detailed investigation reports with findings and recommendations, executing necessary corrections as per established procedures.
  • Participating in project meetings, presentations, and stakeholder discussions.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, process or mechanical engineering.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience, with a minimum of two (2) years in plant maintenance, engineering, or project management.
  • Preferred experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical, process plant, or power plant industries.
  • Work location in Bintulu/Miri and/or as per assignment.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations related to natural gas transmission and distribution operations is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in digital tools such as MS Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and SAP systems.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple discipline projects.
  • Strong project management and supervision skills.
  • Leadership capabilities with a decisive decision-making approach.
